Welcome to Byline. By using our mobile application, browser extension, or website (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using Byline, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Byline is a read-later application that allows you to:

  • Save articles from the web for later reading
  • Read articles in a distraction-free format
  • Listen to articles using text-to-speech
  • Sync your reading list across devices
  • Organize articles with favorites and archives

3. Account Registration

To use Byline, you must:

  • Be at least 13 years old
  • Provide accurate and complete registration information
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service
  • Reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code
  • Use automated systems to access the Service without permission
  • Resell or redistribute the Service without authorization

5. Content and Copyright

Your Content

You retain ownership of any content you save to Byline. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your saved content solely to provide the Service to you.

Third-Party Content

Byline helps you save articles for personal use. You are responsible for ensuring your use of saved content complies with applicable copyright laws and the terms of the original publishers. Byline does not claim ownership of any third-party content.

Our Content

The Byline name, logo, and application design are our intellectual property. You may not use our branding without written permission.

6. Premium Features and Payments

Byline may offer premium features for a subscription fee. If you subscribe:

  • Payments are processed through the App Store or Google Play
  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled
  • Refunds are subject to the respective store's policies
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with notice

7. Service Availability

We strive to keep Byline available 24/7, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to:

  • Scheduled maintenance
  • Unexpected technical issues
  • Factors outside our control

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will meet your requirements
  • The Service will be error-free or uninterrupted
  • Article extraction will be accurate for all websites

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BYLINE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

Our total liability for any claims arising from your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.

10. Termination

You may delete your account at any time through the app settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion, with or without notice.

Upon termination:

  • Your right to use the Service ceases immediately
  • We may delete your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy
  • Provisions that should survive termination will remain in effect

11. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by:

  • Posting updated Terms on our website
  • Sending an email notification
  • Displaying a notice in the app

Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Czech Republic, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of the Czech Republic.

13. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

14. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Byline regarding your use of the Service.
